When we talk about Quality we must think globally. The globalization of businesses and quality is a reality even for small- and medium-size companies. Every company now finds that some of their prime competitors are likely to be based in another country; this affects the strategic and quality approach and the product planning of companies of all sizes.
Bill Troy, ASQ CEO talked about this topic in his last blog post on A view from the Q, and asked to everybody: ASQ’s mission statement talks about increasing the use and impact of quality in response to the diverse needs of the world. Are we doing enough, throughout the world, to accomplish that mission? Why Should Quality “go global”? Well, ASQ is not an exception. ASQ has to focus its activities globally, in order to survive the next 50 years. How? The answer is in the Global State of Quality Research performed by the ASQ (what a coincidence!).
In 2013 ASQ1 has partnered with APQC2;to produce an unprecedented research project called the ASQ Global State of Quality Research. This project has focused on gathering input on quality-related practices from organizations of various revenue sizes from a set of countries who represents more than 75% of the world’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
The purpose of the project is to truly understand how quality is not just talked about, but how it is used by organizations of different sizes and locations around the world. Among other benefits, this data can help you understand and address employee skill gaps, improve processes to reduce waste and lower costs, and ensure a high standard of product quality.
ASQ recognizes the inevitable “gap” between organizations in various countries, and the important role it must perform in filling it. By asking the questions, stating the problems, and focusing on the solutions in the Global State, ASQ endeavors to advance the world’s understanding of and appreciation for what quality is and does in business and industry today, and what continuous improvement can mean for countries and communities tomorrow.
This project is planning to be produced every 3 years to help understand trends in business and industry as they relate to quality.
Here is a infographic that shows you a summary of the research data. You can download it following this link.

In my opinion, ASQ has everything to grow means, influence, and members; has tools, real data and people willing to raise the voice of quality. They just need to focus and start working toward that.
Interesting right? What do you think?
